About this artwork

Albert Moore was a British artist, well known for his portrayals of alluring women within the extravagance of the ancient world. In 1866, Moore created 'Pomegranates', an oil on canvas that showcases three females glancing into a trunk. They're adorned in various hues of pink muslin material, reflecting the shades of a pomegranate.

About the artist

Albert Moore (1841-1893) was an English painter and draughtsman, associated with the Aesthetic Movement. He was born in York and studied at the Royal Academy Schools in London. Moore was a master of the figure, often depicting classical subjects in a style that was both graceful and sensuous. He was also a skilled portrait painter, and his works were highly sought after by the wealthy. Moore was a member of the Royal Academy and was awarded a knighthood in 1892. He was also a founding member of the Society of British Artists.
