About this artwork

Carl Larsson was a Swedish artist from the 19th-century who was tied to the Arts and Crafts movement. A watercolour series he created, which showed various facets of his family home, includes 'The Front Yard and the Washhouse'. Larsson called Sundborn, a tiny Swedish village, home and resided in a house named 'Little Hyttnas'. This house is now one of the most well known artist residences globally. The painting displays his youngest child having fun in the snow with the house's outer buildings in the backdrop.

About the artist

Carl Larsson was a Swedish painter and interior designer who is best known for his watercolours of idyllic family scenes. He was born in 1853 in Stockholm and studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. His works often featured his wife, Karin Bergöö, and their eight children. He was a prolific artist, producing over 4,000 works in his lifetime. His style was heavily influenced by the French Impressionists, and he was a major contributor to the development of Swedish art.
