About this artwork

This high-end print is a replica of a chromolithographic artwork named Musa ensete, which was lithographed by François Frédéric Grobon (1815-1901/1902). The original was created by P. Lambotte (fl. 1860s-1870s) and was lithographed for Auguste Bry of Paris. The artwork is part of Les Promenades de Paris, a collection by Jean Charles Adolphe Alphand (1817-1891), published in Paris from 1867 to 1873. In this body of work, you'll find a variety of illustrations that depict different facets of the city of Paris, including historic Parisian garden scenes and portraits of plants that were grown there. This print is actually Plate 32 from that collection.

About the artist

Francois Frédéric Grobon, originally from Lyon, was born there and later studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts under the guidance of Claude Bonnefond between 1831 and 1836. He then went on to further his studies in Paris, under Victor Orsel.

His artistic journey began in earnest in 1842 when he started showcasing his work at the Paris Salon. During the mid-19th century, Grobon delved into various art forms like lithographs and porcelain painting.

However, as a painter, his creations mostly revolved around religious and historical imagery, landscapes, and portraits. He also had a talent for painting still lifes of flowers and fruits.
