About the artist

Franz Rudolphe Paul, more commonly known as Frank R. Paul, was born on April 18, 1884 in Radkersburg, Austria. As a child, he had a talent for drawing, although he never pursued any formal art training. The world of art seemingly came naturally to him.

His significant contribution to Gernsback publications began with the cover and interior story illustrations he created for the first issue of Amazing Stories in April 1926. From thereon, he became Gernsback's go-to artist, creating works for Science Wonder Stories, Air Wonder Stories, and Wonder Stories.

In 1939, the inaugural science fiction convention named him as the sole Guest of Honor and Speaker. His wife had the chance to sit beside a budding author, Ray Bradbury.

Frank R. Paul's life journey concluded on June 29, 1963 in Teaneck, NJ, at the age of seventy-nine.
