About this artwork

Farmhouse with Birch Trees - Young Birch Tree' was a piece created in 1900 by Gustav Klimt, a well known Austrian artist. At that time, Klimt was residing in Unterach, a village located on the southern side of lake Attersee in Austria. Klimt had a deep love for nature, and to depict the change from winter to spring, he filled this canvas with birch trees.

About the artist

Gustav Klimt (14 July 1862 – 6 February 1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. His primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism. Klimt's work was also influenced by Japanese art and its methods. He was a master of line and ornamental design, and his paintings often featured gold leaf. Klimt's personal life was often turbulent, and he suffered from severe depression in his later years.
