About this artwork

Goldfish' is a creation of Gustav Klimt, a well known Austrian artist. The painting showcases two naked ladies immersed in water with a goldfish. Their flaming-red hair intertwined with seaweed that Klimt brilliantly gilded. The bare breast of the woman at the top of the artwork and the sensual curves of the other woman gives off a fascinating mermaid-like vibe.

About the artist

Gustav Klimt (14 July 1862 – 6 February 1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. His primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism. Klimt's work was also influenced by Japanese art and its methods. He was a master of line and ornamental design, and his paintings often featured gold leaf. Klimt's personal life was often turbulent, and he suffered from severe depression in his later years.
