In the midst of World War One, the battlefield was largely considered no place for a woman. Yet, women played a crucial role in coaxing men to join the navy. The poster titled 'Gee!! About the artist

Born on January 10, 1873, in Ohio, Howard Chandler Christy was a real-life Great Gatsby minus the gloomy ending. This dynamic guy, famous for his battlefield paintings and portraits of U.S. presidents, started his artistic journey in NYC in 1890. He ditched traditional art for vibrant illustrations, kickstarting his career with an author's manuscript.

The sinking of the Battleship Maine in 1898 led to Christy's opportunity as a war illustrator. Sketching the Rough Riders' actions, he fueled American patriotism, and earned massive fame back home. Post-war, he created the iconic "Christy's Girl," depicting the ideal American woman. Christy's fame resulted in weekly earnings that are equivalent to half a million dollars today.

In the 1920s, Christy returned to portraiture, painting celebrated figures and even contributing to the U.S. Capitol Building's art. This distinguished life ended on March 3, 1952, in New York, with Christy leaving an indelible mark on the art world.
