About the artist

Famed illustrator John Emmet Sheridan (June 14, 1877 – July 3, 1948) is best remembered for his cover art for The Saturday Evening Post, his work in Collier's Weekly and Ladies' Home Journal, and his commercial ads. He also played a part in founding New York's School of Visual Arts, where he was a teacher.

Sheridan graduated from Georgetown University in 1901. During the first World War, he joined a committee of artists including Charles Dana Gibson, creator of the Gibson Girl, and James Montgomery Flagg, the man behind the iconic Uncle Sam recruiting poster. Together, they produced numerous patriotic posters supporting the US war effort.
