About this artwork

Katsushika Hokusai was a well known Japanese artist and printmaker from the Edo era, famous for his expertise in Ukiyo-e. This unique style of Japanese art involves a collaborative system where various specialists such as the artist, carver, printer, and publisher work together, each contributing their individual skills. Hokusai's fame primarily rests on his woodblock print series named 'Thirty-six view of Mount Fuji', particularly famous for the print 'Big Wave'. In this print, Hokusai creatively positioned the mountain on the left, alongside some greenery. This artistic choice provides balance to the dramatic, roaring wave depicted on the right.

Express services:

Express service for unframed print and posters by Royal Mail Special Delivery to arrive the next working day for an additional cost. Framed prints are always shipped by express courier.

UK - £3.95 for unframed items by 1st Class Packetpost
UK - £6.90 for unframed items by Royal Mail Special Delivery
UK - £8.95 for framed items.

International - Shipping is calculated before you check out according to destination.
International - Unframed by Registered AirMail or by premium express courier (select at checkout).
Very large prints are always sent by express service.
International - Framed by premium express courier (select at checkout).

About the artist

Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a Japanese artist and ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period. He was influenced by Chinese painting and developed the ukiyo-e style, which focused on landscapes and the daily life of the Japanese people. Hokusai was a prolific artist, producing over 30,000 works during his lifetime. He is best known for his series of woodblock prints, The Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, which includes the iconic Great Wave off Kanagawa.
