Lesley Birch's 'Pink Skies' captures the breathtaking view from a cliff edge at dusk, inspired by her strolls around Port Righ Bay, Carradale, Scotland.
“These paintings are like a sentimental journey, born from raw emotions and recollections of Scottish lochs and coastlines. I think, for many of us, the landscape where we were born leaves an indelible mark on our minds - this certainly holds true for me. Often, I can't precisely trace how the artworks take form, but once they materialise, I recognise the place and the paintings resonate with me. From my aunt’s residence on the Isle of Arran to backpacking along the West Coast, basking in the sun on the Isle of Lewis, or scaling a rocky ledge from the sea in Kintyre - all these experiences are reflected in my emotions and vision. I relish creating layers and using expressive brushstrokes to depict the movement of air and the echo of sounds on the canvas.
