Francine Van Hove, born on May 5, 1942, is a contemporary French painter originally from Saint-Mandé, France. She pursued her artistic education in Paris, earning a degree in Fine Arts that qualified her to teach at the secondary level. After a brief stint teaching at Lycee de Jeunes Filles in Strasbourg, she returned to Paris in 1964, where she currently resides and devotes herself to her art.
Her focus revolves around portraying young women in contemplative states engaged in quiet everyday settings. She draws her inspiration from everyday life, literature, and the works of esteemed artists such as La Tour, Ingres, Degas, and Renaissance painters.
Van Hove's paintings reflect her philosophy of capturing beauty and sensuality. She paints from life, employing models in her studio to depict young women in ordinary yet intimate moments. The subjects of her works possess a delicate yet resilient quality, their skin radiating a subtle luminosity under the play of light. Despite their various states of undress, these figures possess both innocence and a gentle sensuality, unaware as we observe their domestic rituals. V
an Hove's precisely crafted oil paintings have garnered acclaim, earning her a place in collections across Europe, America, and Japan. She is represented by Jean-Marie Oger, formerly an assistant at galerie Alain Blondel.
