Frank Henry Mason (1876-1965), a marine painter, illustrator, and printmaker, originally from Seaton Carew, County Durham. Born into a naval family, he received an education on HMS Conway and briefly pursued engineering in northern England before delving into art.
Starting at Scarborough College of Art, he later gained recognition for his poster designs for railway companies. During the First World War, Mason was appointed a shipping war artist. A significant collection of paintings are now kept in the Imperial War Museum.
