Redouté's collection called Choix des plus belles fleurs, which was released in sections (with each part comprised of four plates) in Paris between the years 1827 and 1833. Gessner was widely recognised for his work in botany and geology, and was a notable correspondent of Linnaeus. He was one of the pioneer botanists to embrace the Linnean system of classification. Sadly, Gessner died before he could see 'Tabulae Phytographicae' completed.
