About this artwork

This artwork illustrates Lake Keitele, a vast body of water nestled in the heart of Finland. The water's surface displays a zig zag pattern, reflecting the currents stirred up by the poet Väinämöinen, the author of the Finnish saga, 'Kalevala'. This poem played a key role in the Finnish drive for independence in the late 1800s, as it was regarded as a national founding myth. The color palette of this print has been meticulously matched to the original artwork, receiving approval from the National Gallery. Each purchase contributes to the functioning and upkeep of the museum.
