About the artist
Southampton-born artist, Allen Jones, famous for his vibrant abstract paintings, sculptures, and prints, rose to prominence with Pop Art during his studies at the Hornsey and Royal College of Art. His 1960s work, intermingling sexual and commercial imagery, evolved into an erotic, fetishistic style, sparking controversy and criticism over female objectification. Yet, Jones, who debuted in 1963 and later introduced metal cut-outs, argues his exploration of human desire and power dynamics justifies his work. He joined the Royal Academy in 1986.
