His film 'Empire' came to life when he propped his camera on a tripod and recorded the Empire State Building, an iconic New York City skyscraper, from dawn to dusk. Warhol explained that the purpose of viewing the film was \"to watch time passing.\" This film marked the start of Warhol's abundant filmmaking and photography career, making him a household name and a symbol of the city, a recognition that lived on even after his death. Between 1976 and 1986, Warhol was never seen without a camera, shooting about a roll of film per day.
