Kennedy's tragic assassination in November 1963, Warhol premiered a massive sequence of silk screens named Jackie in 1964. This collection underscored Warhol's career-length interest in using portraiture as a form of biography. The Jackie series includes pieces aptly named The Week That Was and Jackie Frieze. Each silk screen in these works captures the varied expressions of emotion displayed by Jackie Kennedy on the tragic day her husband was killed. Warhol also incorporated powerful images of the First Lady's face, shocked and mourning at her husband's funeral in Washington D.C. later that week. Later in 1964, Warhol launched three additional Jackie portrait silk screens, dubbed Red Jackie and Blue Jackie. These works are often referred to as the \"Hyannisport\" Jackies as the 1960 source photo of Jackie was taken at the Kennedy family's holiday residence in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
