The Annunciation, a moment from the Bible, is when the archangel Gabriel came down from God to inform the Virgin Mary that she was going to have a child. Yet in this artwork, we see Gabriel getting distracted by Saint Emidius, the bishop from the town of Ascoli Piceno in the heart of Italy. This painting is truly one-of-a-kind for its time, the Renaissance, as it shows a local saint stepping into a Biblical story. This replica is color corrected to match the original and has received the National Gallery's stamp of approval. Your purchase contributes to the museum's ongoing work.

About the artist

Carlo Crivelli was an Italian Renaissance painter from the Marche region of Italy. He is best known for his ornate and intricate panel paintings, often featuring religious subjects. His works are characterised by their use of rich colours, gold leaf, and detailed perspective. Crivelli was a master of the International Gothic style, and his works are highly sought after by collectors.
