About this artwork

Claude Monet, a celebrated French artist from the late 1800s, was a standout figure in the Impressionist art scene. In 1891, he created a piece called 'Poplars on the Epte', which was just one part of a larger series that focused on poplar trees found in a marsh by the Epte River. This scenic location was just a short distance away from his studio in Giverny.

About the artist

Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a French Impressionist painter who was a key figure in the development of the art movement. He was inspired by the Barbizon school and the works of Eugene Boudin, and was a leader in the transition from Realism to Impressionism. Monet was a prolific artist, producing over 2,500 paintings in his lifetime. He was also a passionate gardener, and his garden at Giverny was the inspiration for many of his works. Monet was a founding member of the Impressionist group, and his works are among the most recognizable in the world.
