About this artwork

Claude Monet, a well known French artist from the late 1800s, was a leading figure in the Impressionist art movement. During a vacation in the Netherlands in 1886, he created the masterpiece known as 'Fields of Tulip With The Rijnsburg Windmill'. The stunning Dutch landscape truly fascinated Monet, leading him to portray the vast sea of flowers in every imaginable colour. In contrast, he depicted the sky, windmills, and distant buildings in more subdued shades of blue, grey, and purple.
