About the artist
Born in 1968 in Macclesfield, UK, David Shrigley currently resides in Brighton and Devon. In January 2020, he received the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) award. Shrigley's drawings and texts are dryly humorous, resembling snippets of overheard conversations. Alien perspectives, monsters, and eavesdropping habits are recurring themes. His diverse works span sculpture, installations, animation, painting, photography, and music. Shrigley reaches a wide audience through artist publications and collaborative music projects. He enlarges and transforms objects, taking inspiration from Lewis Carroll's Wonderland. Notable achievements include a Turner Prise nomination in 2013 and the unveiling of the sculpture 'Really Good' in Trafalgar Square in 2016.
