About the artist

Doug Chinnery, born in London in 1964, grew up in Essex after a period of childhood in Western Australia. His early images were captured using various Kodak Brownie cameras. Initially recognised for landscape photography, he employed long exposures and deliberate camera movements. Influenced by Abstract Expressionist painters like Hodgkin, Feiler, Rae, and Ryman, Chinnery's gestural work distills the landscape's essence through poetic visual expressions. Using the camera as his primary tool, he creates intuitive abstract pieces, layering texture, colour, and form to evoke deep emotional responses to nature and architecture. Apart from art, he enjoys crafting furniture and spending time with his wife, Beth, and their energetic dogs, Eddie and Lily. (80 words)
