About this artwork

This all started with the debut publication of High Street, penned by James Maude Richards (1907-92), taking place in London, 1938.

About the artist

Celebrated British artist Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) was adept at watercolour painting, printmaking, and design. He created illustrations and cover designs for books, designed furniture, glassware, textiles, and pottery for the Wedgwood factory.

Serving as an Official War Artist from 1940-42, Ravilious created unforgettable watercolours depicting naval scenes off Norway. His plane went missing near Iceland in 1942, and he was declared dead the next year.
