About the artist
Francis Sansom, also known as Franciscus Sansom, was an engraver primarily admired for his plant-focused prints. He primarily worked for Curtis's Botanical Magazine and the Flora Londiniensis, bringing to life designs conceived by Sydenham Williams. Sir Joseph Banks also hired him to engrave natural history elements from his many expeditions.
It's probable that Sansom kicked off his career in Rotterdam as an engraver. There's a German reference book for engravers that suggests this link.
