About this artwork

The famed English artist George Stubbs was the mastermind behind 'Whistlejacket', which is a highly regarded representation of a horse. The Arabian chestnut stallion, which was a racehorse, belonged to the 2nd Marquees of Rockingham, who ordered the artwork. Instead of adding in a rider or a specific location, Stubbs chose to highlight the horse's elegance by painting it against a plain backdrop. This particular print has been color-matched exactly to the original piece and has received the National Gallery's stamp of approval. Every time this piece is purchased, it helps support the museum's ongoing work.
