About this artwork

Gustav Klimt, the Austrian painter, was known for his distinctive decorative style. But before he found his unique style, he was creating more traditional portraits. One notable portrait from 1879 is 'Girl with Flowers in Hand at the Edge of a Forest'. This features a woman standing in a forest, clad in a pristine white dress. The way the white dress and the curving trees are outlined subtly hints at the stylish decorative flair he was about to embrace a couple of years later.
