About this artwork

Henri Rousseau, a French artist, was largely self-taught but his work significantly influenced a multitude of avant-garde artists from different generations. He painted this image of a gate in the city walls of Paris, adorned with made-up vegetation. The inspiration for this came from the exotic plants he saw at the Botanical Gardens. The colour scheme of this print is accurately matched to the original and has been given the thumbs up by the Courtauld Gallery. When you buy this, you're also supporting the amazing work done by the Courtauld.
