About the artist
Henry Stacy Marks (13 September 1829 – 9 January 1898) was a well known British artist who was particularly fascinated by medieval and Shakespearean topics in his early artistic journey. Later, he developed a keen interest in painting landscapes and ornithologists along with birds. Initially, he worked with oils, but expanded his skill set to include watercolours and murals. Marks was also a founding member of the St John's Wood Clique.
Marks was not only known for his artistic talents but also his lively personality and social nature, as one of the founding figures of the St John's Wood Clique. Additionally, his creative prowess extended beyond painting to encompass interior and ceramic designs, magazine illustrations, and even advertising posters.
