About this artwork

John Lowrie Morrison stands tall as a Scottish expressionist artist in the modern British art world. His piece 'Moonrise Ailsa Craig' beautifully captures a bright moon ascending over the Ailsa Craig island, which is situated at the mouth of the River Clyde, from the perspective of western mainland Scotland. Lowrie's energetic use of paint and his daring use of colour brilliantly accentuate the stunning sight of the moon rising over the island's wild Scottish landscape.

Today he vibrant creations, inspired by artists like Kokoschka, Chagall, and Soutine, fly off the shelves to a diverse clientele, including celebrities.
