About this artwork

John Lowrie Morrison, a Scottish expressionist painter, is a significant personality in modern British art. His piece, 'Moonrise Ailsa Craig', captures the radiant moon ascending over the island of Ailsa Craig, positioned at the River Clyde's mouth, viewed from Scotland's western mainland. Lowrie's energetic paint technique and audacious choice of colours bring out the moon's allure as it ascends above the harsh landscape of the Scottish island.
