About this artwork

William Turner, a British artist, often portrayed scenes from everyday life in the 19th century, with a particular interest in industry and technology. One of his paintings features a steam engine traversing the Maidenhead Railway Bridge, a creation of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The swift shortening of the viaduct, leading our gaze towards the horizon, implies the rapid pace at which the train appears through the rainfall. This print is color-coordinated with the original and has the National Gallery's approval. Each purchase contributes to the museum's efforts.
