About the artist
Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh (1864-1933) was a Scottish artist and designer who was a major figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement. She was a member of the Glasgow School, a group of influential artists and designers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She was married to the architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and collaborated with him on many projects. Margaret was a talented artist in her own right, producing a range of works including metalwork, furniture, textiles and bookbinding. She was also a key figure in the development of the Art Nouveau style in Britain.
