About the artist

Maurice Biais, born into affluence as the child of a successful public notary, was a man of many talents. He was known not just as a fashionable dandy and social butterfly in the Parisian social scene, but also as a gifted artist. Biais married with performer Jane Avril in 1911, but their union was unfortunately fleeting and tragic. His artistic prowess extended to creating a myriad of illustrations, graphics, and posters, one of which included a piece for La Maison Moderne. Alongside these artworks, Biais also designed decorative items for the same establishment.
