He painted, sketched, and also illustrated. Starting in 1899, he began creating furniture and designing leather goods for La Maison Moderne, an art gallery that Julius Meier-Graefe established.In 1911, he married with Jane Avril, a highly popular can-can dancer who was immortalised by Toulouse Lautrec. They made their home in Jouy-en-Josas, where they stayed until he died in 1926.
