About the artist

Between 1933 and 2009, well known photojournalist Nat Finkelstein documented a diverse range of stories, from civil rights protests for LIFE Magazine, to the post-punk scene in New York City, and the international club kid scene of the 1990s. Finkelstein made a name for himself in the mid-1960s, becoming an integral part of Andy Warhol's Factory as the primary photographer.

His powerful and personal photos of the legendary Silver Factory scene, featuring Warhol, the Velvet Underground, Edie Sedgwick, and guests like Bob Dylan and Marcel Duchamp, are now among the era's most notable images. Finkelstein's lifelong commitment was to capture emerging art and music, advocate for freedom of expression, and champion the expansion of consciousness.

Today, his photographs can be found in the permanent collections of esteemed institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA, and the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.
