The artwork captures the instant when Christ heard God's voice as John the Baptist baptised him. Piero stands out as one of the initial Renaissance painters to include perspective in his works. About the artist

Piero Della Francesca (1415-1492) was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance. He was a master of perspective and geometry, and his works are characterised by a serene humanism. He was influenced by the Florentine school of painting, and his works are often seen as a bridge between the Early Renaissance and the High Renaissance. He was also a mathematician and geometer, and his works often reflect his knowledge of mathematics. He was a court painter for the Duke of Urbino, and his works are found in churches and museums throughout Italy.
