About this artwork

This excellent print originates from a colour-printed, manually refined stipple engraving labeled "Hortensia". It was engraved by Langlois around 1800, following an original piece by the well known Pierre Joseph Redouté from the period 1759-1840. It features in P. J. Redouté's collection named "Choix des plus belles fleurs". This collection was published in segments, with each section consisting of four plates, in Paris between 1827 and 1833. This particular piece is Plate 61.
