About the artist
The son of an engraver, Saenredam received his education in Haarlem, where he studied under Frans Pietersz de Grebber until 1622. He earned his place in the Haarlem guild of painters the following year. Although he produced geographical drawings of various other Dutch towns, his main focus was centered in Haarlem. He remained actively engaged with eminent architects of his era, including Jacob van Campen, the architect behind Amsterdam Town Hall. Saenredam died in 1665.
