About this artwork

Raoul Dufy, a French artist, was tied to the Fauvism art movement. This group of modern artists from the early 20th century put an emphasis on bold colors and the fundamentals of painting more than realism. In 1926, he created 'Promenade a Nice' which represents fashion-conscious walkers on the famous coast strip in the northwestern French city of Nice. The artistic design of the painting and its emphasis on color echoes the ornamental style of the ceramics Dufy was making during that time.
