About the artist

Born in 1865 and passing away in 1945, Sir David Young Cameron was a celebrated etcher and watercolourist. He received his artistic education from the prestigious art institutes of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Cameron was a pivotal figure in the revival of the Scottish etching scene, with his primary focus on portraits and architecture.

However, when the 20th century dawned, his artistic interests shifted towards the beauty of the Scottish countryside. The charming village of Kippen near Stirling became his home in 1899, a place he cherished till his dying day. Following a heart scare in 1921, Cameron recuperated in southern France. During his stay, the vivid intensity of the local light fascinated him, prompting him to incorporate vibrant hues into his artwork. This stylistic evolution later influenced his depictions of Scottish landscapes upon his return.
