About the artist
Upon her return, she leveraged her experience, gained early by collaborating with a popular children's magazine, to illustrate books and create caricatures for different clients. Her Moomin series, popular mid-20th century, elevated her to fame, with several spin-off illustrated books, comics, a play, and a musical libretto adding to her popularity. The attention became overwhelming and so she purchased an island in the Gulf of Finland for privacy. Despite her literary success, Tove considered herself an artist first and foremost.
