About this artwork

Andy Warhol frequently revisited themes that fascinated him throughout his career. When he was a commercial illustrator in the 1950s, he produced a number of intricate floral art pieces. Then, in the 1960s, he came up with his most well known series of flower paintings. These vibrant, all-encompassing compositions were showcased in different arrangements. The silkscreen technique he used gave the subjects a flattened look, resulting in a gorgeous painting with an inherent abstract quality. In the 1980s, he conceived a floral design for the exterior of the Tacoma Dome. He was so taken with these images that he decided to make a series of screen-prints featuring Daisies.

About the artist

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertisement. Warhol's art used many types of media, including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. He was also a pioneer in computer-generated art using Amiga computers. Warhol's life and work were marked by controversy, his open embrace of celebrity culture, and his collaboration with many of the leading artists of his time.
