About this artwork

Andy Warhol had a habit of revisiting themes that piqued his curiosity throughout his career. During his tenure as a commercial illustrator in the '50s, he produced several exquisite artworks featuring flowers. The '60s saw him develop his most well known flower series, comprising vibrant, all-encompassing compositions. These were displayed in numerous alignments, with the silkscreen technique lending a flat effect to the subjects, resulting in an inherently abstract, visually pleasing painting. Fast forward to the '80s, Warhol designed a proposal featuring flowers for the outer surface of the Tacoma Dome. He was so enthralled by these images that he ended up creating a series of Daisies screen-prints.

About the artist

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertisement. Warhol's art used many types of media, including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. He was also a pioneer in computer-generated art using Amiga computers. Warhol's life and work were marked by controversy, his open embrace of celebrity culture, and his collaboration with many of the leading artists of his time.
