About this artwork

Andy Warhol frequently revisited themes that intrigued him throughout his career. While serving as a commercial illustrator in the 1950s, he created multiple intricate flower pieces. His most recognizable flower series was produced in the 1960s. These vibrant, full compositions were displayed in different arrangements, and thanks to the silkscreen method, the subjects were flattened, resulting in a uniquely abstract and stunning painting. In the 1980s, he came up with a floral design for the Tacoma Dome's exterior. He was so taken with these images that he went on to create a series of Daisy screen-prints.

About the artist

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertisement. Warhol's art used many types of media, including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. He was also a pioneer in computer-generated art using Amiga computers. Warhol's life and work were marked by controversy, his open embrace of celebrity culture, and his collaboration with many of the leading artists of his time.
