About this artwork

Andy Warhol had a consistent habit of illustrating throughout his life, except for a break from 1963 to 1972. His art journey, which began in the 1940s when he was a student and continued until his passing in 1987, featured drawing as a constant medium. His unique "blotted line" technique was a major hit, often put to use in commercial projects. Warhol's illustrations, particularly of shoes, were so popular that he had to engage assistants to help him with the workload. He even got his mom to do some of his lettering. This collaborative approach eventually led him to dub his New York studio the Factory.

About the artist

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertisement. Warhol's art used many types of media, including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. He was also a pioneer in computer-generated art using Amiga computers. Warhol's life and work were marked by controversy, his open embrace of celebrity culture, and his collaboration with many of the leading artists of his time.
