About this artwork

Carl Larsson was a Swedish artist from the 19th century who was a part of the Arts and Crafts movement. He created a watercolor painting called 'Getting Ready for a Game' which ended up in his book titled 'Larssons', published in 1902. The painting depicts his family gearing up for a round of vira, a card game from Sweden that was all the rage back in the 19th century.

About the artist

Carl Larsson was a Swedish painter and interior designer who is best known for his watercolours of idyllic family scenes. He was born in 1853 in Stockholm and studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. His works often featured his wife, Karin Bergöö, and their eight children. He was a prolific artist, producing over 4,000 works in his lifetime. His style was heavily influenced by the French Impressionists, and he was a major contributor to the development of Swedish art.

Also associated with: National Romanticism, Arts and Crafts Movement, Swedish Art Nouveau, Swedish Modernism, Karin Bergöö, Royal Swedish Academy of Arts.
