About this artwork

Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson was a well known British artist recognised for his landscape and figure art. He holds a significant place in history as one of the most well-known war artists from World War One. In 1917, he created a study portraying the seemingly endless road from the Northern French city of Arras to a small commune called Bapaume. He skillfully represented the aftermath of a bombardment on this road, with his use of strong perspective intensifying the depiction of the scene's desolation and emptiness. This print is a perfect colour match to the original and comes with the endorsement of the Imperial War Museum. Purchasing the print offers support to the museum's ongoing work.

About the artist

Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson was a British modernist painter and printmaker. He was a member of the London Group and the Camden Town Group, and was one of the most famous war artists of World War I. Nevinson studied at the Slade School of Art and the Académie Julian in Paris. His early works were influenced by cubism and futurism, and he later developed a more figurative style. He was a prolific painter, producing a wide range of works including landscapes, portraits, and abstracts.
