About this artwork

Claude Monet, a well known French impressionist painter, had his residence in Argenteuil, on the edges of Paris from 1871-1878. The locale was quickly transforming into an industrial hub and Monet depicted this in his artwork, positioning the church adjacent to the factory chimney in the middle of the painting's horizon. The print has been colour matched to the original and given the green light by the Courtauld Gallery. Every purchase goes toward supporting the Courtauld's endeavors.

About the artist

Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a French Impressionist painter who was a key figure in the development of the art movement. He was inspired by the Barbizon school and the works of Eugene Boudin, and was a leader in the transition from Realism to Impressionism. Monet was a prolific artist, producing over 2,500 paintings in his lifetime. He was also a passionate gardener, and his garden at Giverny was the inspiration for many of his works. Monet was a founding member of the Impressionist group, and his works are among the most recognizable in the world.
