About this artwork

In 1951, the well known artist Henri Matisse created this vibrant graphic piece. It was part of his initial work for a ceramic design, intended for a villa belonging to his buddy and art critic, Tériade. The artwork is beautifully replicated in a excellent digital print on Tintoretto 250gsm paper.

About the artist

Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was a French artist who is widely regarded as one of the most influential painters of the 20th century. He was a leader of the Fauvism movement, which emphasised strong colours and bold, expressive brushstrokes. Matisse was also heavily influenced by the Post-Impressionists, particularly Paul Cézanne. He was known for his use of bright colours and his ability to capture the essence of a scene in a single image. Matisse was also a sculptor, printmaker, and draughtsman. He was married twice and had three children.
