About this artwork

Back in 1915, an Austrian artist named Egon Schiele came up with an artwork titled ‘Woman Buttoning Her Shoes’. This piece of art really showcased Schiele's talent for accurately portraying the female body. Instead of going for the traditional pencil, Schiele opted for charcoal for this drawing. It gave him more room to play around with textures.

Schiele was known for his raw and provocative depictions of the human form, and his works were often considered controversial. He was also a mentor to the young Oskar Kokoschka. Schiele died at the age of 28 from the Spanish flu.
